Child & Teen Psychotherapy

I work with children (7+) and teens navigating a range of mental health concerns. To begin, I prioritize building a therapeutic relationship to create a safe environment. I subsequently tailor my approach based on the needs and preferences of the client in front of me. I typically utilize a combination of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), play-based therapy approaches, and Polyvagal Theory.  In doing so, both children and teens will learn to process their feelings, while developing self-compassion and healthy coping skills.

As each case is dependent on the age and development of the client, I also enlist a combination of client-only sessions and parent/caregiver guidance sessions. This is decided on a case-by-case basis, as I tailor my approach to the specific needs of the child/teen. As an advocate for youth autonomy, fostering a strong sense of identity and independence is highly encouraged.

Areas of support: Neurodivergent youth (ADHD/autism) including confirmed diagnosis and/or self-identifying individuals, anxiety, perfectionism, depression, bullying, low self-worth, attachment trauma, school challenges, emotional regulation, and stress.

Parent Emotion Coaching

As an adjunct to your child’s individual sessions, I offer one-on-one sessions for parents and caregivers. This space is safe and judgement-free for those who require guidance navigating through their child’s emotional wellness. By utilizing Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), each session is collaborative, as we collectively determine strategies to facilitate your family and support your child. These sessions often focus on attachment and co-regulation strategies.

Brainspotting

Brainspotting (BSP) is a treatment method developed by Dr. David Grand. It is governed by the notion that where you look subsequently affects how you feel. It is a gentle yet effective method to engage the body’s natural healing ability to safely access traumatic memories stored beyond the thinking brain - instead, deep in the subcortical region of the brain. It is both a brain and body-based form of focused mindfulness that uses the eyes to locate, process, and release sources of emotional and body pain, trauma, and a variety of other symptoms.

Therapeutic Modalities

EFT is rooted in attachment theory and views humans as deeply relational beings - wired for connection and co-regulation. EFT is an experiential approach that prioritizes identifying patterns of emotion regulation, and deepening underlying emotion. EFT aims to guide individuals toward awareness, expression, regulation and corrective emotional experiences to create new meaning.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

ACT is a mindfulness-based behavioural therapy that encourages you to embrace your thoughts and emotions rather than resisting or feeling guilty for experiencing them. ACT utilizes acceptance strategies (including self-compassion practices) as well as behavioural strategies to increase psychological flexibility. This modality aims to create a meaningful life cultivated by your core values - to be fully present and engaged for who and what matters in our lives.
